| The Goose Island Fest was a beer fest, took place in the parking lot of some factories... $5 for a cup of beer, but it was actually just 2 tickets for a beer (tickets being $2.50 each [to further confuse drunk people into spending more than they think they are])
The night started with J. Davis Trio , they started as soon as the gates open, so alot of people missed most of their set which was short.. They are a good jazz/hip hop group. 3 white gusy on bass, drumkit, and trumper.. a black guy rhyming and playing vibes (only seldom did he play the vibes). They have a Digable Planets/Humpty kind of sound, but they're really lacking something, most likely the fact that the drummer uses no toms! They ended their set with The Choice Is Yours by Black Sheep. It was great.
Family Tree then proceeded to play 30 minutes.. some hip-hop group (i assume from chicago) mediocre throw your hands in the air stuff, i didn't pay much attention but used this time to get a little drunker and to spin the wheel and win a free disposable camera..
Next up was The Pharcyde for 30 minutes. You may remember them from their hit "Can't Keep Runnin' Away" from 11 years ago. They didn't exactly inspire me, but they got the crowd going.
Then Family Tree played another 30 minutes set (why did they get two sets?)
Then Tortoise came out. They haven't been doing many shows this year, so lot's of people came out to see one of their only chicago gigs of the year. They were a little rusty at right (dont' think they've played a show since Bonnaroo) and the second song had some fuck-ups but after that they got it together and it was on. They rock the place and threw it down hard. If you don't know what they sound like, i won't try to explain, just go buy their album "Standards".
Then MMW! Great of course, they just keep getting better and better. I knew they wouldn't jack around or do any spacey improv tonight. I could tell by the crowd and the fest that they were gonna throw it down and they did. No guest appearances (i was really really hoping that Jeff Parker from Tortoise would play with them) but MMW don't need guests. They opened with Start/Stop and then just the baddest Seven Deadlies i've ever heard. It was on!. Then Nocturnal Transmission into a lenghty improv of a new song, I couldn't tell. Then Macha into a great drum solo into Hey-Hee-Hi-Ho, then Chris picked up his acoustic for the first time that night and they went into a beautiful and haunting piece. At first i thought it was Netsanet that they played at Bonnaroo because of the slow bass line and how the bass line was very percussive like some african music, but when i woke up the next morning and looked at the setlist i wrote down, so some reason I thought it was the Golden Lady by Sun Ra. Now that i'm home, booyakasha! (like Ali G says) it was The Golden Lady and it was really fucking beautiful!!!! Upon finishing that song (the first stop of the set) Chris strapped the electric back on and they threw down a typical, yet badass Uninvisible to close the set. Now when i say typical i mean to negativity, we all know these guys can play. I love them soo much.
Oh yeah. the encore was a beeeeeautiful Hey Joe... beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. I LOVE MMW.

| Im sorry Mr. Rsndy Bayers, but that was Big Time, I'll never forget it. I am 98% positive bout that one. But good call on The Golden Lady though, I'll give you that one. |

| I'm writing in with a correction to this setlist. Macha was not played at this show. The song listed as Macha is actually Big Time. Rock On! |
