Now I know I"m going to catch some serious flack here but generally > November '98 shows are not my favorite due to what I hear as sometimes aimless jamming and lots of free space ala April 98 - another not-so-fav era. That being said, you REALLY need to get this show. > Things start out nicely enough with a free opening jam that slides into a decent Toy Dancing. I first notice Logic here though he may have been playing earlier as well. You can hear the boys really start to warm up to the groove; nice and mellow. By Golden Lady they've definitely found it and they follow that with an equally tight Hey Hee Hi Ho. This is a silky, smooth version just dripping with 1978 disco funk. Start/Stop is next and is just what this MMW tour is heading towards. Very jammy indeed. Next is Sequel which I can't fairly rate since I had to pick up my bass and play along w/ Mr. Wood and couldn't listen objectively. I thought it was cool anyway! So next comes Latin Shuffle. A beautiful and sometimes sparse version of a song I can't say is always my favorite, but this is a version to change one's mind with. John starts with some really nice tasteful and incresingly furious piano runs. This is some serious keyboard work here. It eventually crescendos - and man does this fucker crescendo! - into a melodic Billy solo before re-emerging into the Shuffle. A bass solo ensues and reveals a few very talkative audience members - BOO! The playing by Chris is absolutely beautiful though. Sugarcraft is next and I can't stop tapping my foot. Unfortunately the CD ends here and cuts the transition to one of the slowest and sexiest C-Jam Blues ever. Logic gets the spotlight on him during this tune. Olde Wyne comes charging out of the Blues and is as blisteringly fast as the previous song was laid back. Not your ordinary Wyne. Crosstown Traffic kicks out the set in a superb way. Very jammy for this usually not-so-exciting song in my opinion. This one really entertains! Jams like few others I've heard (11.25.00 anyone?). Just Like I Pictured It is the encore and what an encore it is. This is definitely my new favorite 11/98 show...and yea I know 11.19.98 rules too. |
